Running Games at MidSouthCon

With hundreds of games being played throughout the weekend, gaming is a integral part of the MidSouthCon experience. The preliminary game schedule will be posted a month or so before the con, but you can get a good idea of what we will be doing at MidSouthCon 28 by perusing the information below.

 

Sessions & Time Slots

Gaming runs from 2:00pm on Friday until 6pm on Sunday. The main start times are as follows:

  • Session 1 (Friday 2:00pm)
  • Session 2 (Friday 7:00pm)
  • Session 3 (Friday 11:30pm)
  • Session 4 (Saturday 9:00am)
  • Session 5 (Saturday 2:00pm)
  • Session 6 (Saturday 7:00pm)
  • Session 7 (Saturday 11:30pm)
  • Session 8 (Sunday 9:00am)
  • Session 9 (Sunday 2:00pm)

Of course not all games will fit neatly into the sessions, so when the schedule comes out, be sure to look it over carefully.

   

Role Playing Games

The RPGs at MidSouthCon cover most genres and styles of play, so there will be games for all types of role players to enjoy.  It is too early to list the RPG schedule, but we can tell you that we are planing to have over 100 role playing games at MSC 28, and last year we had games of:  RPGA Living Forgotten Realms, Pathfinder, Dungeons & Dragons, Hackmaster, Star Wars, Aces & Eights, Big Eyes Small Mouth Savage Worlds, Fudge, d20, Mutants & Masterminds, Paranoia, Cortex System, Call of Cthulhu, numerous Home Brew Systems and more!  Note: once again you will be able to pre-register for the RPGA Living Forgotten Realms events run by the wonderful GMs of FORGE (pre-registration for those games will start in February).


   

Board Games

Board Games are the fastest growing section at MidSouthCon and we plan to have 70 Scheduled Board Games plus a board game lending library with over 200 games for people to play throughout the weekend! Miniatures

We will have Warhammer 40K, Space Hulk, Flames of War, Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures, Monsterpocalypse, Hero Clix, Savage Worlds Showdown, Fairy Meat and more.

   

Live Action Role Playing Games

Once again we will have a room dedicated to LARPS, and we will have numerous games run by different groups throughout the con (including at least one Vampire LARP). We will also have a return of our annual con-wide assassin tournament.

   

Collectable Card Games

We will have Booster Draft, Sealed Deck, and other Magic the Gathering events, plus Epic, Pokemon and several other CCGs.

   

Video Games

Electronic gaming at MSC is divided into two arenas; first, open play, in which anyone can come in, pick up a controller and sit down at either a gaming station, enduldge in some of the games of yesteryear via our NES Retro Station or relax at our Handheld/Laptop Lounge and simply game on to their hearts content, and second, Project Mayhem, the competitive arena in which gamers can sign-up and participate in tournaments and events to win prestige and prizes!  Some of the popular games that will be offered here include:  Street Fighter IV, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Soul Caliber IV, Tekken 6, Mario Kart Wii, and many more!

Mission

Our primary focuses are literacy and education. To that end, we have held an annual convention in Memphis, TN for over two decades hosting numerous authors, editors, scientists, and artists. We also hold a free seminar for educators and librarians, a writers' conference with workshops by award winning authors and editors, and annual student art and writing contests.

MidSouthCon is presented by Mid-South Science and Fictions Conventions Inc. a non-profit type 501(c)(3) Corporation. Donations are welcome (and are tax deductible).
